Big Horn Lodge – A Hidden Gem in Grand Lake! I booked Big Horn Lodge last minute, truly not expecting much, especially the week before the Fourth of July. Our original anniversary plans had fallen through, and this was our backup—but it ended up being an absolute win. I’ll admit, the online reviews had me skeptical. But the price was surprisingly affordable for Grand Lake, and after speaking with staff on the phone about a quieter room, I was assured they’d assign us “the perfect one.” They absolutely delivered. From the moment we arrived, the front desk was friendly and accommodating—allowing us to check in early and explaining that amenities like coffee, towels, and toiletries were provided in-room, with extras available in the lobby anytime. A thoughtful touch that made us feel instantly welcomed. We also had a last-minute change and had to bring our dog. Thankfully, they made it easy with just a small $20 per night pet fee—no stress, no fuss. We stayed in Room 20, located on the second floor at the very end—away from the main area and wonderfully quiet. Be aware: there are only two floors and no elevator, but it wasn’t a problem for us. The room itself exceeded expectations with its spaciousness, cleanliness, and cozy charm. Best of all, Big Horn Lodge is just a short 5-minute walk to the heart of Grand Lake. We parked once and never needed to battle for parking again. It was PERFECT for enjoying the annual lakefront fireworks. While others were stuck in traffic, our peaceful walk was a dream. This spot turned our backup plan into a memorable anniversary escape—and we will absolutely book here again.

I have stayed at other places in this area, and this place seems well run, clean and efficient. The room I got was quite nice.

We booked a room with Big Horn for a weekend while renting snowmobiles nearby. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the fridge/microwave combo was handy. While they don’t offer many frills, the stay was pleasant, and we definitely got our money’s worth.

Previous reviews set our expectations low, but we were pleasantly surprised. We needed two rooms for a rather last-minute trip, and even though it was the weekend after Labor Day, there weren't many lodging options remaining in Grand Lake that allowed only a one-night stay for a not-ridiculous amount of money. The photos on their website clearly show that Big Horn Lodge is a motel, and the room descriptions are accurate. With that said, we still considered the rate too high for these very basic rooms (hence subtracted a star), but they were clean and spacious. The bed was quite hard but manageable for a night, but we liked that the sink was located outside the toilet-shower bathroom. Each of our rooms came equipped with a microwave and the smallest minifridge (microfridge?) we've ever seen, but it did the job for storing our sandwiches, fruit, and ice packs for next day's adventure. Our specific room also came with two luggage stands and lots of table space, which was helpful keeping our stuff off the older carpet. Our room's air conditioner fan unit ran smoothly - no rattling - and provided white noise so we found our room was quiet even though it was on the first floor facing the parking lot. The upper lot directly in front of the lodge is tight if you have a large vehicle and it's busy, but that didn't pose a problem for us. Walking distance to the center of town. Check-in during the afternoon was friendly and super quick. Early next morning we were able to just drop the keys in the box by the office door and leave.

Although this place is not new, it has spirit and it's very clean and neat. The price of the room was very affordable for double queen bed and much cheaper than other hotels in the area. I've been in this hotel four times already and this is my first review and the reason is I don't like to write reviews for no reason but this time we experienced very good hospitality. I came with my family and I asked the owner about the area, things to see fishing and etc. The owner of the lodge spent his own time explaining everything with details. He showed us on the map where to go fishing and what bait and technique we should use to catch some fish. I loved it. Especially when we went fishing and everybody around us couldn't catch anything and my kids were catching fish after fish, what an experience!!!. It is walking distance to restaurants and the greatest ice cream in the area. 25 minute drive to hot mineral springs. We spent one week at the hotel, the owners were so friendly with we decided to stay in one place and drive around. Best family vacation in Colorado. And best fishing so far even though it wasn't the best season for fishing. Really recommend this place I read some other reviews and I don't understand some people with negative reviews if you are friendly to someone and smile they smile back to you but if you rude don't expect someone to be nice to you.

Stayed one night while on a bicycle tour through the area. Was very pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. Check in was very fast, the room was large, clean and had the usual amenities (microwave, mini fridge, flat screen TV, Keurig coffee maker, and AC). Beds were comfortable and the room was quiet. The Wi-Fi was spotty, but not a real problem. Definitely would not hesitate to stay again.

My experience here was great. The room was nice and clean, I found the bed comfy, it was nice to be able to use the hot tub, and location close to downtown shops and restaurants was perfect. I would certainly stay again.
